[Game review] Final Fantasy XII (partially)
Posted 1 Jun 2010
Final Fantasy XII

Publisher: Square Enix
Format: PS2
Well seeing as how my Xbox decided to get a red ring at a good time I decide to dust of the Sony Playstation paperweight 2 thats been sitting ever so lovingly on a table near the tv and turned it on, deciding to play whatever game was in it at the time. And lo and behold the loadscreen for a Final Fantasy game appeared. Much to my dismay though it wasnt Final Fantasy 9 I was hoping for, but instead I got 12.....sigh.
So I decided I would weather on and finish the game I started playing when I got it a long long time ago in a galaxy far far way and started from my loadpoint. And how quickly do I remember why I stopped playing it. The biggest challenge I had by far was setting up the gambit system. Now Im all for non-retarded AI in a game but it shouldnt be something I have to program into it to make it not suck. They should already know that when a character is near death to cast cure on it or use a potion.
I am not a game programmer and to me it just seems like Square enix has gotten so lazy they gave up on the idea and instead of putting them in order of nessecity(surviving, killing, quirky one liners) they decided to program everthing and let me sort it out. So I mustered up all my strength and curage and went to the internet for help. Im sure this would be a useful tool except that no one told me Id have to move the gambits around to the order I want them prioritized. Which goes back to my first argument of why should using a anti-toxin be more important than say reviving a member of my party.
Although you really cant tell the difference between reviving a member and switching them out. They all get the same abilities and the only noticable difference between any of them is the weapons and half of them have tits. Which foes back to square just being lazy. Im all for setting up different character do to different things, but when all the characters can do everything it takes all the thinking out of the game. Every character is a white mage, every character is a tank, and every character seems to do the same damage. I just dont get why they cant take the time to create intricate leveling processes which dont end up in all the characters being able to do everything
I can tell you right off the bat I dreaded this since I realized I was playing FF12 but decided to solider on until I got frustraited which came at the first boss from my save point. I cant tell you why, but there wasnt any imagingation, no sense of dread or awe that I felt in Final Fantasy 9, or even 10 for that matter. I wasnt scared so much as I was annoyed that knowing if I kill this flowery dragon thing that it would ruin my 100 chain combo of 1 hitting wolves in the same area for hours on end only to find my characters are still horribly under-leveled.
Final fantasy 9 was really the last good FF game square enix has made. Everything afterwards just seems to be like a choose your own adventure novel where all the routes you take end up leading to the "take a nap option." If I ever read a book, I would want there to be the beginning than a whole rollercoaster of excitement, fear, anxiety, character development, all to culminate in one great ending with closure. However, Square Enix has just gotten so lazy knowing that all the fanboys will buy the game because FF is on the box that they decide to make a Lego set of pictures and programming instead of a game.
In short, after a total of 15 minutes of playtime I got so annoyed I decided to go to work, than go outside and walk my dog, clean the house, do some work on repairing my balcony and deck, some light gardening and even cook a delcious meal for my lady and I and than go to bed having a lot more fun doing all that than the 15 minutes I played final fantasy 12. So in short, real life is more fun than final fantasy 12. Dont waste your money buying it if you already havent. -

Now let us all ask the Canadian Philosophy major questions about life.
So how Canada?
From a philosophical viewpoint: Is Heat negative cold, or is cold negative heat?
Is dark the abscence of light, or is light the abscence of dark?
"Canadian bacon is just ham in candia" is the same as saying "Italian sausage is just sausage in Italy"?

Chrysler LLC discontinues production of the Viper

Production of the Dodge Viper super car may have come to an end, perhaps permanently. The Viper’s Detroit factory has been shut down, one of eight that Chrysler LLC plans to leave in bankruptcy court. Chrysler filed for bankruptcy on April 30th, with plans to sell its good assets to Fiat SpA.
Raising Dodge’s Visibility With A True Sports Car
The Viper project was hatched in the late 1980s as a way to bolster the Dodge brand while giving buyers an option to the Chevy Corvette, a pricey one at that. Never a big seller, the hand built Viper went into production in 1992 and only sold its 25,000 copy in 2008. Still, Viper raised Dodge’s visibility and proved to the world that life beyond K-cars was quite good.
Chrysler LLC attempted to sell Viper last year as one way to raise funds for the struggling automaker. The company indicated that there was some interest in Viper, but nothing transpired by the end of the year when Chrysler’s financial collapse took place.
Dodge, owned by Chrisyler LLC, has announced and end to the Dodge Viper with only 50 cars to be made in 2010 called the Dodge Viper SRT 10 Final. Today I fly my car fans flag at half mast for this icon of American insanity
